November 21, 2014

Gummies have come a long way since they were introduced in Germany in the 1920s. The inventor of gummy bears drew inspiration from dancing bears at street festivals and markets throughout Europe. Since then, gummies have become a popular confection for all ages worldwide.

Gummies are now used as a delivery system for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical ingredients. You can find them in products ranging from weight loss to sleep aids to multivitamins. The primary reason for growth is gummies offer the same fortified ingredients as pills, but without the chalkiness that makes them difficult to swallow. Unlike pills, gummies are convenient as you do not need a beverage to assist in swallowing.

At the 2014 SupplySide West, Flavorchem showcased flavored gummies fortified with vitamin blends with the traditional taste and color consumers expect.
