Road to Flavorchem
I started working at Flavorchem in February of 2020. The joke I always told my new customers was that I was hired as an “Inside Sales Representative” who spent the majority of my time working “Outside” due to the pandemic (that line would always get a chuckle). I enjoy everything about working at Flavorchem – my customers, my co-workers, and the opportunity to know and work with Phil. It is an amazing company with a great legacy!
Behind the Scenes
I get to help customers with their products that need flavor and/or color solutions so that they can successfully bring a product to market. I think the average consumer would be surprised to know everything that needs to be aligned in order to introduce a new product to the market. I love the fact that I assist my customers across many categories as well – Confections, Bakery, Beverages, Snacks, Dairy, Culinary, Healthcare, Nutraceutical – the list goes on. It is exciting to see a finished product that uses a Flavorchem flavor.
Memorable Moments
My first flavor development project was a memorable, great learning experience. The customer had very tight timelines that we had to meet from start to commercialization. It enabled me to work with every department and understand and appreciate all the work that everyone puts in to create and deliver a successful end flavor! My first Sales Meeting was also memorable. There was a collaborative meeting with the flavor and fragrance teams. It was great to put the names with the masked faces!
Interest in Food & Beverage
I am always fascinated by the food–love connection because there are so many great memories people connect with food. I can’t think of one person that I’ve met in my life who doesn’t have a fond memory of a particular meal that their mom, dad, grandma, etc. used to make for them. Food is a great way to learn about people and their culture. It’s also a great way to break the ice with someone you have just met.
Outside of Flavorchem
I enjoy cooking, baking, collecting sea glass by Lake Michigan, boating, and dog training. Something my co-workers don’t know about me is that I have trained and competed with my dog (Dunkin, who is a Vizsla) in the AKC Obedience trials. He has titles and we even won first place in one of his beginner novice competitions. I also worked as a cheese monger – let me know if you need any help with your next charcuterie board.😊 Additionally, I have had the opportunity to travel a few great cheese trails (Wisconsin & California).
